Understanding the Definition of Health-related Fitness




Being a Conditioning Professional, it is my job to understand terms and definitions which can be commonplace to this industry, as well to keep abreast of evolving trends. Through my experience, I've found that a number of terms deserve a bit more clarification than that they will are granted.

These elements are:

    Cardiorespiratory Fitness
    Body Composition
    Flexibility
    Muscular Strength
    Muscular Endurance

Conversely, Skill Related Fitness Components are:

    Balance
    Reaction Time
    Coordination
    Agility
    Speed
    Power

In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the meaning of Physical Fitness emphasizes the main difference between Health Related Health and fitness and Athletic Ability Health and fitness. Its point-of-departure is the "health" of the US nation, which is often known as the "public health perspective." Due to that, the 5 Health Related Fitness Components are more important than those associated with Athletic Ability (or Skill Related Components).
